"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."

John 3:16-17

Pastor Bill

Pastor's Perspective

In the book God Has a Dream, South Aftrican Archbiship Desmond Tutu talks about living an abundant life as he reflects on his country's horrific and violent experience with race relations.  The archbiship writes this:

"If you were in heaven now, you would notice the tears in God's eyes.  The tears streaming down God's face as God looked down on us and saw the awful things that we, God's children, are doing to each other.  God cries and cries."

"And then you might see the smile that was breaking over God's face like sunshine through the rain, almost like a rainbow.  You would see God smiling because God was looking on you and noting how you care.  And the smile might break out into a laugh as God said, 'You have vindicated me!  I had been asking myself, "Whatever got into me to create that lot?"  And when I see you — yes, you — you are beginning to wipe the tears from my eyes because you care.  Because you care and you have come to learn that you are not your brother's keeper or your sister's keeper.  You are your brother's brother and your sister's sister.'"

"And God says, 'I have no one except you.'"  This God truly does have us.  And we have life with God as an absolutely free gift of grace.  May we give that life away, a little each day; and as we do, may we experience true abundance at the hand of the Good Shepherd, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Jesus said "I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." - John 10:10.  In 1 John 3:18, "Dear children, let us not live with words or tongue, but with actions and in truth."

Yours in Christ,

Pastor Bill Trosien

MARTHA SOCIETY

A bit of history…

Services were held in the American Legion building when our Savior Lutheran Church was organized in the fall of 1955 as a mission church.  The ladies met in members’ homes, and with the spiritual help of Pastor Bolin, chose the name MARTHA SOCIETY with a mission to serve the Lord.  They immediately assumed the care of the altar and visited the sick.  During 1956 they formed the constitution and by-laws.

Our first church was completed in 1959.  The ladies then felt they would like to become part of LWML as they had a “home” to invite LWML ladies for rallies.  Early in March 1960 we became a part of LWML.  We participate in giving of our ‘mites’ monthly to help fund our District’s missions.

The present…

When the need arises, our ladies are ready to help, with the last few years raising approximately $3,000 annually to fund special endeavors.  Yearly we host a Card Party/Salad Luncheon, a White Elephant/Bake Sale and a Christmas Cookie Walk.  We also provide requested funeral luncheons.  Money is distributed to our Concordia Seminaries, in both St. Louis and Fort Wayne—Lutheran Bible Translators—Lutheran Heritage Foundation—Lutheran Counseling & Family Services and many others including disaster relief and our own Social Ministry.

Our Committees consist of:

Altar Guild – alternating women serve monthly
Kitchen – keep kitchen clean and stocked with supplies
Love ‘n Care – visit sick and shut-ins
Quilts – cut squares and make quilts for LWR
Special Sales – sell Christian cards/napkins
Stamps – cancelled stamps are saved for missions
Sunshine – cards are sent to shut-ins and bereaved

We help out where we can at Camp Luther—present food baskets for shut-ins at Christmas—annually pack boxes of quilts, sweaters and soap for Lutheran World Relief.  Join our circle of ladies of all ages for dessert & coffee and fun & fellowship each 2nd Wednesday of the month at noon.  Be our guest!
