Our Savior Lutheran Church
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."
John 3:16-17
The peace of God's creation during summer provides a great opportunity for you to seek spiritual renewal. Come join us in praise to our Creator God.

There is a line in the Billy Crystal movie CITY SLICKERS spoken by Curley the cowboy. He has the three yuppies from the city gathered around the campfire in the middle of the prairie and he tells them about the secret to happiness. He holds up one finger. He explains that you cannot find true contentment in life until you figure out what that one thing is—the one thing that is truly first in your life.
That is the essence of Jesus' message to Martha (in the familiar story concerning Mary and her sister Martha). Martha whines to Jesus, "Don't you care that my sister has left me to do all the work—by myself? Tell her to help me! Maybe Jesus held up one finger too when He answers her, like Curley in City Slickers, but He doesn't give her one ounce of satisfaction. Instead, He tells her, "Martha, Martha, Martha...you're worried and upset about a lot of things, but only one thing is important. Mary has chosen the one thing and made it her own." Jesus says, "It cannot be taken away from her." An interesting choice of words here to describe Mary's focus on things spiritual. Listen to and take to heart the good news of the Gospel, because it is the only thing that can never be taken away from you. Jesus died for YOUR sins and God's forgiveness FOR YOU is unconditional. No one can stand in the way of your complete forgiveness except you. The implication is, everything else can be taken away from YOU. Everything else passes away. Everything!
Do you find yourself worrying about a lot of things. If we are worried about a lot of earthly things, if our possessions are managing us instead of the other way around, it's time to simplify. It's time to make time, for meditation, for worship, for reflection, for gratitude.
One thing is needed, Jesus. Just one. Maybe Jesus stepped on some feelings with His response to Martha. We worry about a lot of things. "Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." Have you?

A bit of history…
Services were held in the American Legion building when our Savior Lutheran Church was organized in the fall of 1955 as a mission church. The ladies met in members’ homes, and with the spiritual help of Pastor Bolin, chose the name MARTHA SOCIETY with a mission to serve the Lord. They immediately assumed the care of the altar and visited the sick. During 1956 they formed the constitution and by-laws.Our first church was completed in 1959. The ladies then felt they would like to become part of LWML as they had a “home” to invite LWML ladies for rallies. Early in March 1960 we became a part of LWML. We participate in giving of our ‘mites’ monthly to help fund our District’s missions.

|
CHILDREN'S ACTIVITIES |

If school is cancelled or dismissed early on a weekday, any activities planned for later that day will be cancelled. If the event is on a non school day, cancellations will be announced on local radio and efforts will be made to contact those expected to attend. |

For those of you who have recently taken the opportunity to commemorate your special occasion with a donation to our "Words to live By" radio message, thank you. This very important ongoing ministry of our congregation is one of our greatest tools for evangelism.
An anonymous donor has volunteered to match donations between now and the end of June. If you would like to sponsor a specific broadcast, day, Saturday or whole week there is a sign up sheet with envelopes in the hallway between the narthex and fellowship hall.
| COST |
|
Weekday broadcast between 7:00 and 7:30 AM $17.00/day — $85.00/week |
|
Saturday — scattered throughout the day, 6 times a day $14.00/broadcast — $85.00/Saturday |
| These broadcasts are on both WERL 950 AM and WRJO FM |
Don't forget to have your card scanned at Pick N Save for the "We Care" program and mark your receipts from Trig's with 6C and deposit them in the tall red box as you exit the store. Both of these contribute to our "Words to Live By" radio broadcast. If we all remember to do this it really adds up!
